Google Gemini AI Release Date: Unlocking Gemini’s Power Beyond Bard

Google Gemini AI release date

Introduction

Remember the buzz surrounding Google’s Gemini AI? After the announcement on December 6, 2023, at a virtual press conference by Pichai and Hassabis, the new AI “Gemini 1.0” has been surrounded by buzz. Even after the Google Gemini AI release date on December 13, 2023, the buzz hadn’t stopped.

Earlier this month, Bard has been officially replaced by AI Gemini. Gemini AI is also released as a smartphone app, but as of now, it is not available all around the world. Some countries including the USA and the UK have already got the Gemini app while other countries will be getting the update soon.

There is also news regarding the Gemini subscription. Let’s explore the history of Google’s new AI Gemini, its capabilities, future potential, and the release date of the Gemini App in various countries.

Understanding Google Gemini AI

Gemini is a series of multimodal large language models created by Google DeepMind. Gemini includes three models: Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano. Formerly known as Google Bard was designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Google claims Gemini is Google’s most capable AI which are built from the ground up for multimodality. In the widely used Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) task, which assesses an AI model’s level of expertise, Gemini is the first model to surpass human experts.

Simply, we can say, that Gemini is the AI chatbot that evolved from Google Bard which was initially released to compete with GPT-4. Gemini has next-generation capabilities, including complex reasoning, text, image, and audio understanding, and advanced coding.

Bard to Gemini Evolution: Major updates

On February 8, 2024, Google Bard was changed to Google Gemini. Since then, there have been a lot of changes including the real-time information and subscription plan. However, the design is similar to Bard which provides the same UI, which means you won’t feel like using a different Chatbot.

Real-time information

Google has always had the real-time information advantage over OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Since, the release of Google Bard, real-time information has been the major advantage of using Google’s AI.

Initially, after updating from Bard to Gemini, the real-time information feature was lacking in Google’s new AI Gemini and only gave the results according to its training data. Now, the feature is back and with advanced capabilities.

Gemini AI chatbot can give you real-time information as well as there is a feature to cross-check the information on the web. Additionally, there is a feature, which I personally like is prompt modification. If we don’t get the results we expected, simply, we need to select it and regenerate it.

Subscription Plan

Bard had a lot of features that were free of cost, still, there are many incredible features free but some additional features are paid which I had predicted earlier in OpenAI vs Google. Currently, Gemini is free to use in gemini.google.com or bard.google.com. Although there is an option to upgrade to Gemini Advanced.

In my point of view, Gemini AI most likely has a free-to-use version like in ChatGPT. This will most likely be free forever as there is an update that didn’t stop giving real-time information like GPT-3.5.

Regarding subscription plans, there is a Premium Plan, which costs $19.99 per month and includes 2TB of storage, Google Photos editing features, 10% back in Google Store rewards, and so on. You can access Gemini Advanced after subscribing to the Premium Plan.

Google Gemini AI Availability

After the Google Gemini AI release date, it is now available to users in over 180 countries and territories, but it is now only available in English. For Android users, there is a dedicated app while iOS users have to use it within the Google app.

Currently, it is available only in English, Google plans to expand Gemini to support more languages and countries soon, starting with Japanese and Korean. The model is being integrated in various Google products and services like Search, Ads, Chrome, and many more.

Did you know that Google hasn’t unveiled the logo for Gemini AI yet? In the meantime, I’ve created a predicted logo that you can check out here.

Current Capabilities: Exploring Gemini’s Power

Google’s AI Gemini has evolved to offer advanced capabilities through its different versions. The latest, Gemini Advanced is more capable of reasoning, coding, and creative collaboration. Gemini Ultra has shown impressive benchmark results and outperformed human experts in massive multitask language understanding.

AI Gemini ensures data security and ethical usage while being customizable for specific business needs. It is being used in many sectors such as healthcare, financial services, retail, education, and many more to enhance efficiency.

Gemini Pro, another variant is the one that powers Bard/Gemini Chatbot. There is one more variant, Gemini Ultra, this one is considered as most powerful among these AI. It is anticipated to be even more advanced. These advanced capabilities will be helpful for developers and enterprise users.

Google Gemini AI Release Date

Google Gemini AI was initially introduced on December 6, 2023, and officially replaced Google Bard on February 8, 2024. The next generation AI, Gemini 1.5 was announced on February 15, 2024, showcasing the enhanced performance and breakthrough in long-text understanding capabilities.

Applications and Use cases

As mentioned above, Gemini AI has a wide range of applications and use cases across various sectors. The following are some of the important applications and use cases:

  1. Healthcare: Gemini AI is being used to revolutionize patient care by analyzing medical imaging and patient data, and aiding doctors in diagnosing complex conditions.
  2. Financial Services: In the financial sectors, AI Gemini’s powerful analytics can be employed for predictive risk assessments and fraud detection.
  3. Education: In the education sector, Gemini AI is being used to create interactive and personalized learning materials, furthermore, students can use it to solve their doubts in a personalized way.
  4. Content Generation: Gemini AI is being used to generate creative and tailored content, such as personalized recipe suggestions and chatbot assistance for finding the best recipes across the internet.

Google Gemini Vs Bard

Google’s Bard and Gemini are often conflated, but they represent distinct components within Google’s AI ecosystem. While Bard serves as the interface to Gemini models, Gemini itself is a family of models with diverse potentials.

To draw a comparison, you can think of Bard as an application for Gemini and other AI models, while Gemini represents the underlying language models powering these applications. Just like OpenAI’s ChatGPT which is an interface powered by GPT-3.5 or GPT-4.

However, Gemini extends beyond Bard, encompassing various models tailored for different tasks and applications. It’s important to note that Gemini operated independently from other Google AI endeavors such as Imagen-2, a text-to-image model.
