Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra review

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra looks quite like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Of course, the new model has some improvements over the old one. The display is flatter, and the back cameras are larger. The 6.8-inch panel still has a gentle curve, but it is thin enough to make using an S pen comfortable.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is in better hands thanks to the use of Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It can help avoid scratches and drops, yet I would recommend getting a case to protect your Samsung S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra weighs about 230 grams and has dimensions of 163.4×78.1×8.9. The weight and dimensions are also the same as the previous model.

Samsung says that the Galaxy S23 is environmentally friendly because it is made of recycled materials such as recycled fishing net for the S pen inner cover, recycled aluminum for the SIM card tray, and recycled water barrel for the side keys.

The entire design is excellent, and the phone quality is also exceptional. It even resists fingerprint spots on the phone’s body.

Display

The Samsung S23 Ultra boasts one of the greatest displays in a smartphone in 2023. The S23 Ultra’s picture quality and color reproduction are both flawless.

The 6.8-inch AMOLED panel, known as the “Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O QHD+ Edge Screen Display,” features a resolution of 3088×1400 pixels and a peak brightness of 1750 nits, allowing it to work properly in bright light conditions.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra provides a flexible viewing experience with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Additionally, it can be lowered down to 1Hz, which can save a significant amount of power.

When I tested this device, I was impressed by the smoothness and fluidity provided by the 120Hz refresh rate. Transitions were smooth, whether I was scrolling through the web pages, using menus, or watching action movies.

What impressed me was the ability to reduce the refresh rate to as low as 1Hz. When I needed to conserve battery power, this option was helpful. The device improved battery consumption by lowering the refresh rate without losing usability.

Camera

The camera is excellent, as one would expect from a Galaxy Ultra phone. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the first flagship phone in the United States to include a 200 MP camera. Samsung uses the Adapt Pixel Sensor, which improves the photographic experience significantly.

The camera is amazing in terms of overall performance. Thanks to its 200MP sensor, the photographs were clear, detailed, and colorful. Whether it was capturing breathtaking views or close-up images, the camera always offered excellent results.

When I tested the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera, I saw that Samsung included some interesting new shooting modes that gave photography a more creative edge.

Yet, one thing that may be made more user-friendly is the process of locating various shooting modes. Some of them were hidden in menus, even though they provide interesting options. It would be great if Samsung could make these features more easily accessible through quick access options.

Besides the 200MP sensor, there are two 10MP sensors with 10x and 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor to round out the back camera system.

On the front, there is a 12MP sensor, which is a step down from the model before it but not without improvements. Low-light and portrait photographs now have better depth measurements.

Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is brand-new, comes along with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. This processor, commonly known as the “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform for Galaxy”, was designed specifically for this phone.

This chipset can run at even greater clock speeds than the normal chipset. The performance is superb, as one would expect from a Samsung Ultra phone.

Battery

Samsung kept the battery size the same as its predecessor. The 5000mAh battery is enough for daily tasks; let’s say the battery life is great every day. It has a video playback time of up to 26 hours.

The charger for the Samsung S23 Ultra is not included in the box. This may be because the charger is now more universal and has a Type-C port. Because most consumers already have this charger, Samsung chose not to include it in the box.

The Samsung S23 Ultra can charge at 45W, which is excellent. But I think it’s a little less impressive when compared to other flagships. I would consider the Samsung Galaxy S23 specifications to be weak in the battery area when compared to previous versions.

Storage and Connectivity

The Samsung S23 Ultra’s base model offers 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. When you upgrade to the bigger storage choices of 512GB or 1TB, your phone’s RAM will be raised to 12GB.

It has a Type C port for charging. Other connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3, are also available.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Price

The Galaxy S23 Ultra costs $1199 and comes with 156GB of storage space. It’s the least expensive option. If you need more storage, the prices are $1379 and $1699 for 512GB and 1TB.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is available in four colors: green, cream, lavender, and phantom black. If you order online, you can choose from four more color options: Red, Lime, Graphite, and Sky Blue.

You can buy the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra directly from Samsung’s website, as well as on other shopping websites such as Amazon and Best Buy, or in stores near you.

I find the cost a bit high for this phone. There are plenty of alternative options with comparable specifications, such as the OnePlus 11 Pro and Google Pixel 7.

However, the Galaxy S23 is far more powerful, with a larger battery that lasts longer and a unique Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU. So, if you want to use this phone for many years, you can buy it.

The Samsung S23 Ultra’s S Pen is a real game-changer. The S Pen is fantastic because of its Bluetooth connectivity and remote control features. It feels like an actual pen on paper with its precision and sensitivity, providing a natural experience for taking notes, drawing, and navigating.
