New Mac Mini 2023 with M2 and M2 Pro chipset is more powerful and also more affordable than the previous version. While the design of the Mac Mini is mostly unchanged from its predecessor, the new processor M2/M2 Pro is a significant upgrade this year.
Design
The new Mac Mini M2 2023 has a pretty similar design to its predecessor. Same square-shaped design with curved corners. It contains more Thunderbolt connections than its predecessor and a built-in speaker. The Mac Mini M2 weighs about 2.6 pounds, while the M2 Pro weighs about 2.8 pounds.
Performance
Mac Mini 2023 is equipped with the new M2 and M2 Pro chipset so there is a major upgrade in performance this year. Video editing is 2 times faster than the previous year’s Mac Mini.
M2 chip
The new M2 chip uses the next-gen CPU and GPU. Devices powered by this new chip can open up to 51 apps at one time.
M2 Pro
M2 Pro is the advanced version of the M2 chip. It uses a 2nd Gen 5 nm processor alongside 40 billion transistors. M2 Pro features the next Gen 12 core CPU and has 20% better performance than the M2 chip. The 19-core GPU has caused a 30% GPU performance boost.
With this chipset, Mac Mini is 2 times faster than M1 Mac Mini. Apple claims Gameplay is 35% faster in Mac Mini M2.
Storage
Mac Mini M2’s base variant consists of 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD and can be configured with up to 24GB RAM and 2TB SSD. Mac Mini with M2 Pro can be configured with up to 32GB RAM and 8TB SSD.
Ports and connectivity
Mac Mini M2 2023 comes with 4 Thunderbolt ports, 2 USB A ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an HDMI port. Mac Mini M2 2023 supports the new Wi-Fi 6E which is two times faster than the previous version.
Price and Release date
The starting price for a Mac Mini (8GB 256Gb) is $599 and $1299 for a Mac Mini(16GB 512GB) with an M2 Pro chipset. Mac Mini M2 2023 will be available starting from 24th January as mentioned on the Apple Website.
