Apple’s OLED iPad Pro 2024 rumors

According to one online report, it is said that Apple is working on iPad Pro models with an 11-inch OLED screen as well as a 13-inch screen. According to MacRumors, new iPad Pro 2024 models are expected to be launched during Q1-2024. According to MacRumors report, which quotes DSCC analyst Ross Young, Apple is set to launch 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pro models from Apple in Q1-2024.

Display analyst Ross Young has previously mentioned plans for new OLED iPad Pro 2024 models, but this confirmation is the first that MacRumors has heard about updated display sizes at the 11.1-inch and 13-inch sizes. In July, display analyst Ross Young mentioned tech giant Apple would be rolling out new OLED iPads 2024 models in 2024, according to a report. Apple has not confirmed an official launch date for those tablets, but the new report, which quotes DSCC analyst Ross Young, says that the new OLED iPad Pro 2024 models will launch during Q1-2024.

Kuo is probably thinking Apple is going to introduce 11 and 13-inch iPad Pro OLED models first, since that is what Apple has done previously, unveiling the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, followed by the 2021 MacBook Pro, both of which feature LED backlighting. Given the latest reports, it appears Apple has no plans to introduce mini-LED displays in its 11-inch variants, instead making the jump to OLED displays straight away. Apple is expected to keep using mini-LED technology until hybrid OLED eventually makes its way into the mainstream, a possibility that is reportedly unlikely until sometime in 2024.

Apple is reportedly looking into hybrid OLED display technologies as it seeks to slim down the iPad even more. We recently reported that a major mini-producer to Apple said that the company’s plans to transition the iPad and MacBook lines to OLED displays over the next several years are driving down the demand for displays in consumer devices. Taken together, all these speculations indicate Apple wants to switch its iPad and MacBook models to OLED displays.

The year 2024 will also coincide with the year when Apple is expected to place OLED displays on its upcoming iPad and MacBook models, both to launch sometime in 2024. Other sources like The Economist and DigiTimes confirmed that Apple is developing OLED panels for larger devices such as iPads and MacBook models, with the technology expected to be ready by 2024. This means Samsung Display is going to need to ramp up its OLED panel manufacturing very quickly to satisfy the coming OLED panel requirements from Apple.

The switch from micro LEDs to OLED is expected to be a long-term process, and one analyst offered their thoughts on whether Apple’s rollout of a new MacBook with advanced display tech would be affected by the speed at which it first introduced an iPad model. He stated that the launch of the OLED MacBook will be completely dependent on how quickly Apple can introduce the iPad OLED screen models first. Apple refreshed both 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros with an M2 chip in October 2022, so it would not be a surprise if the next refresh does not arrive until 2024.
