Samsung Galaxy S23 release date and latest rumors

A Galaxy S23 might be coming soon, but Samsung hasn’t yet said anything about the new device. Still, we can fill in the blanks with a couple of educated guesses and what we’ve seen so far.

According to the leaker Ice Universe, Except for the chip, S23/S23+ hasn’t changed. The S23 Ultra’s chip, screen, and primary camera are the only modifications.

Samsung Galaxy S23 rumors: Design

We expect the Galaxy S23 to follow the same basic design language as its predecessors. That means you’ll find a metal frame with curved glass panels on both sides of the screen; however, Samsung may opt for a slightly different color scheme this time around.

According to Ice Universe, a leaker who has provided reliable information in the past, the smartphone will measure 6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 inches—slightly larger than the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s dimensions of 6.42 x 3.06 x 0. Despite rumors that a new camera design would make phones thicker than ever, the Galaxy S8 is thinner and more streamlined.

Performance

According to Ice Universe, there is an internal discussion about whether Qualcomm should be the exclusive provider of power for future Galaxy smartphones. While some models feature Exynos processors, that might indicate a revival of their line. If rumors are true, it will be faster than its predecessor and more energy efficient.

 Samsung Galaxy S23 rumors: Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is rumored to have a 200MP camera, which may compete with the iPhone 14 Pro. According to a tweet from Ice Universe, the phone’s 200MP camera would have pixels that are 0.6 mm in size and a wider aperture of f/1.7 to capture more light. This suggests a barely perceptible increase in camera sensor size from the S22 Ultra, however, it is reportedly only marginally larger than the 48MP camera sensor found on the iPhone 14 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy S23 rumors: Battery

The Samsung S23 Ultra may have a battery that is 5,000 mAh in size—similar to the batteries found in its predecessor models. The suspected Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip could be included and would significantly aid power management by improving features such as fast charging.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Release date

Based on the timing of previous Galaxy S releases, we expect that the Galaxy S23 will be announced in February. We believe Samsung had to make room for the release of its new flagship phone—the GalaxyS21 FE (which stands for “First Edition”)— to get a jump-start on sales during January 2021. This likely delayed their announcement and launch dates for their standard models such as S22. Naturally, Samsung is not currently developing a Galaxy S22 FE, thus the S23 release plans may not be affected.
