MediaTek’s New Dimensity 1080 Improves 5G Smartphone Performance

MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset

The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset has been launched with a better camera.

For a while now, MediaTek has dominated the market for low-cost and mid-range smartphones made of silicone. Its Dimensity 920 SoC was found in devices including the Xiaomi 11i, Realme 9 Pro Plus, and Narzo 50 Pro. The MediaTek Dimensity 1080, which has better performance, efficiency, and camera capabilities, has now been presented by the firm.

MediaTek Dimensity 1080 Overview:

MediaTek launches a 5G compatible chipset the Dimensity 1080 at a fairly reasonable price focusing on the mid-range android smartphone. It features many upgrades from Dimensity 920 from the previous year and is built with TSMC’s 6nnm manufacturing process. Two ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.6GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2GHz make up the CPU’s octa-core configuration.

The MGS5 is using the same Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. So, this isn’t a matter of pure performance. It’s more likely a question of the benchmarking technique and how it’s measuring performance. The new model of the GeForce 1080 cards lacks any gaming-specific features and supports both UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 memory.

Camera improvement

The camera system undergoes significant adjustments in MediaTek Dimensity 1080. Up from 108MP, MediaTek Dimensity 1080 can now support a single 200MP sensor. It also supports 4K HDR videos.

Remaining Specs

Full HD+ monitors with refresh rates of up to 120 Hz are supported by the chipset. The AI Processing Unit (APU) is also the same as what is used in its predecessor. The sub-6GHz 5G network, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2 are all supported here.

MediaTek has listed three chipset models – M80, M85, and M85. It is not clear which model MediaTek is using in the Mediatek Dimensity 1080, but I think it is the M85. The chipset features an integrated Gigabit Ethernet controller. This can also act as a USB 3.1 Type-C port. The storage. MediaTek is using a SATA-compatible connector on this device.

Availability

By the fourth quarter of 2022, phones with Dimensity 1080 chipset will be sold on the market, claims MediaTek.

Performance

Gamers can benefit from the HyperEngine 3.0 gaming advancements on the Dimensity 1080 for quick performance and seamless connectivity, as well as the chipset’s built-in, AI processing unit 3.0 (APU 3.0) for the best power efficiency. The Dimensity 1080 also supports sub-6GHz 5G networks and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, enabling gamers to play without interruption and lag no matter where they are.
